Saturday, August 9, 2008 - The Real World
Sometimes I feel that it is unavoidable to question your life. A few months back, or even just 6 days ago, I had no direction, willing to try anything that I want. And when I weigh my wants and needs, it's as if everything I want was so unreachable that I had to give it up and pursue my needs.
Does society? My country have something in store for me? My country is great, as a third world country, it's the only country I have and like the say, there's no place like home. But I do question if there's a bright future for me here. This are the same questions my fellow Filipinos faced when they were planning their lives. It's a trend, get a job, start small and apply overseas. If you stay here, you will be working until you die.
Now my road just started, I am now a computer teacher in a private high school. Not exactly what my course in college is about and in fact, it's the most unlikely (in my estimation) for me to be hired. What did they see in me? The least experienced and barely any related subject in college to be hired. I'm still 20, I will be teaching 13-14 year olds.
If there is only one problem that I think I would be facing is this... I need a breather. I can learn, no doubt. But sometimes it's hard to learn things when you are pressured to learn quick by yourself. This is by far, the most challenging thing I have ever done, sometimes I like it, sometimes I doubt. It's not easy to change so fast... or in my case, mature.

Congrats on being such a young teacher!
Obviously you've done your homework...and done it well.
Hungry young minds are always looking for answers and even more so need to be learning to ask the right questions. Because of your age you are close enough to your students that you can relate to them and they to you. They will be looking to you as a model of what they can aspire towards for themselves.
It is a great responsibility that you have been given.
But yes, you need time for yourself to grow and by enriching yourself you have even more to offer.
Hang tough!
